Accidents happen. If you or a child falls or gets hit in the mouth and a permanent tooth is lost, stay calm. Locate the tooth, pick it up by the crown portion (the part of the tooth that you see in the mouth) and rinse it very gently. Do not scrub! If you can reinsert the tooth, do so. If you are uncomfortable with doing that, please call the office right away. Keep the tooth moist by placing it in a tooth preservative kit (save-a-tooth), milk, or even your own mouth next to your cheek, being very careful not to swallow it. If it is a child, do not let them keep it in their mouth. Ideally, it is best to see a dental professional within 30 minutes.
